Academic and Scientific Interests

Ok this page will have lots of links to scientific pages (like weather sites) as well as pages that I have used for school assignments. I will also talk about the kind of topics I am interested in! I think it will be a pretty cool page. Hopefully it can help you and maybe you will even learn something!

Science is definitely my favorite subject, no matter what kind of science it is. I have been lucky to have good courses at school, such as Marine Biology and Origins of Science. This semester I am taking Optics, which is really cool! Biology has generally been my favorite, but astronomy and aerospace engineering type things are looking more and more interesting.

Here is a nice astronomy-related picture that I took:

And how about some science links!

I also really like computers. I have learned Pascal and C++ so far, and (obviously) HTML. The computers class I am in now is teaching HTML, Photoshop, and lots of other cool things. Next semester I am taking Computer Graphics where I will learn Java. I think computers are definitely something I will continue learning in the future. Here is a scene I made using PovRay:

Want to learn about PovRay and find other computer-related resources? Here are some links:

English is another subject I really like. I LOVE Shakespeare. His language is just so beautiful, and when you see the plays performed they are breathtaking. Some of his plays are incredibly funny and others are incredibly sad. I go to lots of plays at a Shakespeare theater nearby, so I have seen plays by Tennessee Williams and Oscar Wilde as well. I liked Oscar Wilde but I HATED *er, I mean* um... "did not care for" Tennessee Williams. I really like poetry too. I am still finding my favorite poets!

I even have some english links here:

Reading outside of school is really important to me too. I used to read a lot of Star Wars books, but most of them are pointless now. The only good ones are by Timothy Zahn! I also read random fantasy and science fiction books. I really liked the series by Rosemary Edgehill that started with The Sword of Maiden's Tears. I like scary books too. I read a few Peter Bencheley ones, like Beast and Creature. My all time favorite scary book is The Relic. You HAVE to read that book! I also get several magazines like Sky and Telescope and Popular Science. The truth is I will read anything with words on it, including cereal boxes! And I think it has been really important and has helped me with vocabulary and knowledge in general.

Here are some of my all-time favorite books (in no significant order):

Hmm I obviously need to organize this a little more. And these are just my FAVORITE books! Can you imagine all the ones I merely LIKE? Haha when I grow up I am going to have a huge library in my house.

I also think languages in general are really cool. I am in French 6 now, but it is not as exciting as it used to be. I really would like to learn Japanese and German, and maybe Italian, and Welsh or Gaelic. Oh and Chinese of course, so I can understand all of Faye's songs! And Hindi so I can watch Shah Rukh Kahn movies! Maybe Portuguese too *grin* Languages are just so interesting! I like their structures and how the words fit together to create meaning.
